Quote: "I support the transfer of inmates to the Thomson Correctional Center, and I have full confidence that the facility will hold these terrorism suspects safely and securely. At a time when Illinois is struggling with 11% unemployment, this transfer will be a great economic benefit to the state by creating over 3,000 well paying-jobs and bringing in valuable federal dollars to fund local facility operations. - Senator Roland W. Burris, On The Guantanamo Bay Inmate Transfer
A New Insurgency. They didn’t join the U.S. military; instead they sought in sharp repudiation to become paid terrorists trained in an al-Quaida like fashion and to carry out Jihad and Jihadist activities as conspiring Muslim extremists. Their long-range plan was to fight in Afghanistan against U.S. troops along the Pakistan-Afghan border. They are five Americans from the Washington, D.C. area who have now been arrested and detained in Pakistan; their ability to implement the plot foiled. The men were arrested after Pakistani police were notified of their whereabouts by Pakistani civilians and shortly after their failure to connect with militants associated with al-Quaida. We perceive each man as having a lack of guidance and without a conscience; also having a loss of hope for life in America and possessing a willingness for martyrdom for their religious beliefs. There is no reason not to believe that they were also affected and encouraged by reports of violence in terrorist bombings, suicide attacks, and the pirates at sea incident(s) or that they enjoyed news pictures of such violence, along with reports and videos presented on the internet. Authorities found that they had used social networking websites in their effort to make initial contacts online with other militant groups. There was once a great concern in American society about the effects of violence on an audience when displayed in movies and especially in that shown on television. But today no movie is needed as the action, real drama and the results of the acts of terrorism are shown frequently on evening newscasts and again await to be viewed, shared and stored indefinitely within the canopy of the world wide web. - Zuria http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8406408.stm
